Childhood to Man or La Case des Hommes

Childhood to
Manhood or La Case des Hommes
With
my fingers I would tally my years right
With those fingers I now can't do it alright
I was in innocence before I won the fight
Mom would change my diapers every day and night
She kept me on the spot cause she feared I might
Get besmirched or choose the wrong pathside
And on her chest she would hold me tight
Even when far from her, of me she had sight
Scrawling on my paws at the mercy of ant-bite
Beside my mom, Age came to free me from any fright
Years after years mom would the candles light
The Future before me was getting bright
Mom and Age helped me, just as did William Fulbright
With these jotted lines, I'm celebrating myself tonight
For making the long journey, not in a comfort flight
But from childhood, a few inches tall to this height
I can feel the sky above me, through the moonlight
Wishing me Happy Birthday in the stillness of the night
I'm still digging my past like in an archeological site
To better know myself out and the inner deep inside
I'm still searching, still journeying outside
I thank family and friends whom I can't let aside
No longer a child, though my hair ain't white
Yet like a wise old man, I act so right
I can hear the bells of reason from every mountainside
Opening my eyes, keeping me awake and my feet so light
So Joyous I feel cause that's my Birthday tonight...
With those fingers I now can't do it alright
I was in innocence before I won the fight
Mom would change my diapers every day and night
She kept me on the spot cause she feared I might
Get besmirched or choose the wrong pathside
And on her chest she would hold me tight
