The Triangle

The Triangle

Dark ol'days lyin on our backs
In filthy cockpits like sardines
Bathin in sweat, pee, shit and blood
Piled one onto the other

Dyin one after the other
It's Humanity in shackles
While civilization giggles
Hope and future taken hostage

Whips whizzin and swirlin
High and landin harsh and tough
Skin whipped off, blood spilling
We're wedded to pain

A race in dirt, dust and mud
Kept in ignominious cells
As in Auschwitz
Dachau...

Dumped into shark jaws
Or left to rot without coffin
Sold in triangular trade
We're just breeding animals

Sun never shines in 'em damp cells
Bats and owls singin or mornin' us
Only gloomy nightbirds to befriend
Or Pest to, at last, claim our blood

We are the ones farmin
Yet we are the ones starvin
Civilization we laddered up
Yet it mopped its feet on us

Only songs to sing our pains off
Hopin for that bright, new day
When there ain't be no chain
Nothin that hampers on dignity

We still sing
Our souls are free
The Negro is a man
All God's chil'ren have wings
